Project Overview
Fallowfield Student Village gives the University of Manchester 3,300 student beds across 29 residential blocks, with four neighbourhood hubs and a central hub for the shared side of student life. The blocks run mid-rise, up to 14 storeys, and the whole scheme is built to Passivhaus standard, the largest Passivhaus scheme in Europe.
The construction method shapes the engineering. Built in modular precast concrete, the blocks couldn’t have services chased in once panels were up, so every conduit route has to be cast into the concrete and agreed with the precast manufacturer before anything was made. Seven of the blocks are Higher Risk Buildings, taken through the Building Safety Regulator’s Gateway 2 process.
